Laurier community gets behind crowdfunding platform

Initiative funds projects led by Laurier students, staff and faculty

A number of innovative projects underway at Wilfrid Laurier University are getting extra support thanks to the launch of Laurier’s new crowdfunding platform, HAWKstarter.

Launched in December, HAWKstarter initially funded seven projects that ranged from helping Faculty of Education students educate teachers in Haiti to planting new trees in and around Laurier campuses. Each HAWKstarter project is led by Laurier students, staff and faculty.

“The launch of HAWKstarter is exciting for Laurier as it provides an innovative and accessible way for our university community and our greater community to support and celebrate the important initiatives happening on our campuses,” said Rob Donelson, vice-president, Development and Alumni Relations.

New projects will be introduced as part of HAWKstarter on an ongoing basis. Laurier faculty and staff will have the opportunity to apply to be part of the next funding round of HAWKstarter in the fall of 2017. Visit HAWKstarter.com to see the projects or learn more.
