Golden Hawks mine silver at national golf championship

Team enjoys best finish in school history at Golf Canada's Canadian University/College Championship

The Laurier Golden Hawks men’s golf team made history on June 1, capturing its first-ever silver medal at Golf Canada's Canadian University/College Championship at Tangle Creek Golf and Country Club in Barrie.

Laurier narrowly missed out on gold, finishing with a team total of 1,213, just two strokes behind winners Université Laval.

“Our men battled very difficult, windy conditions and were able to stay in it mentally to gut it out for a second-place finish,” said head coach Jeff Colley. “Our golf program here at Laurier has been improving steadily every year and I feel that this finish is a big step toward making us one of the best programs in the country.”

Laurier's five-member team included Jaron Brown, Ryan Murphy, Austin Ryan, Eric Flockhart and Andrew Cox. The Golden Hawks' previous best finish at the event came in 2015, when they finished fifth in the team standings.
