KPMG renews commitment to Lazaridis School accounting program

KPMG has renewed its support for the accounting program at Laurier’s Lazaridis School of Business and Economics with a $250,000 donation to the university.

"Years before they choose their professions, our future leaders depend on the process of self-discovery and learning that academic programs like Laurier’s Lazaridis School of Business and Economics provide," said Mary Jo Fedy, managing partner of KPMG’s Waterloo office. "Our firm’s contribution is just one way we can help inspire young people to develop to their full potential."

KPMG's gift will support several areas in accounting at Laurier: the continuation of two KPMG fellowships put in place in 2011 and the addition of a third, the continuation of the popular KPMG Bootcamp and the launch of a new event, KPMG Day, among other initiatives.

"We are grateful to KPMG for the breadth and depth of their generosity,” said Micheál J. Kelly, dean of the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics.

In its sixth year, the annual KPMG Bootcamp provides an education workshop for second-year co-op students interested in pursuing careers in accounting. KPMG Day will provide students with career development workshops, information sessions and networking opportunities.
