Reasons to feel pride in Laurier

May and June brought several opportunities to feel immense pride in Laurier. In May, we celebrated seven exceptional alumni and two new honorary alumni at the Alumni Association Awards of Excellence. All of those recognized are enriching our communities through entrepreneurship, volunteerism and philanthropy – all with the humble and determined attitude of true Golden Hawks.

In June, we welcomed new members to our alumni community. In Brantford and Waterloo combined, nearly 3,000 students crossed the stage during convocation cermonies to become Laurier alumni. Convocation is a time that fills me with nostalgia, remembering the joy of finishing my degree combined with the trepidation of starting life after graduation.

Convocation is a time filled with incredible energy that graduates won’t soon forget. You can see some of the memorable moments on the alumni association’s social media accounts, @LaurierAlumni on all platforms.

As new members of the alumni community, the Class of 2018 has access to our GradVantages program, which gives alumni access to savings and benefits on everything from insurance to entertainment. The program generates revenue that allows the alumni association to support critical work on campus. We have supported mental health and wellness initiatives at the Student Wellness Centre, provided early stage funding to entrepreneurship and social innovation work and provide several renewable undergraduate scholarships. These are just a few recent examples of how support from the Wilfrid Laurier University Alumni Association has touched students, alumni and wider community. We thank our alumni for their continued support.

One final exciting announcement: Homecoming 2018 tickets are now on sale! You can get started with planning on our Homecoming 2018 website. Hope to see you there!
