The 2014-15 season was one to remember for Laurier’s women’s basketball team. After losing their first game of the season, the Hawks would win their next 12 straight contests – a team record – and only lose two more games the rest of the year. The team finished the regular season 17-3, setting a new team record for most wins in a season, and reached No. 5 in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport national rankings, the highest a Laurier women’s basketball team as ever been ranked.
In a season full of highlights, one that stands out is a 60-53 road win over the No. 1 ranked and four-time defending national champion Windsor Lancers, a team that hadn’t lost at home since 2010 and that the Golden Hawks hadn’t beaten since 2007.
The Hawks came into the season as an inexperienced group, having lost four key players from the previous season to graduation. They also overcame adversity all year long, including having nearly half their roster injured for the first seven games of the season.
