Laurier’s Brantford campus hosted an engaging evening with Senator Murray Sinclair, who served as chair of Canada's Truth and Reconciliation Commission, in conversation with CBC journalist Duncan McCue to kick off the new academic year.
The event, part of Laurier’s Conversations with Leaders speakers series, saw Sinclair discuss his upbringing in northern Manitoba, legal career, leadership of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and how those experiences influenced his approach to leadership.
About 500 people attended the event, including members of the Aboriginal community, Laurier students, alumni, faculty and staff.
“You have the right to be whoever you are in the face of outstanding pressure and you have the responsibility to be who you are in spite of that pressure,” Sinclair told those in attendance.
Laurier's Conversations with Leaders speaker series explores leadership in its diverse forms and celebrates the ways leaders enrich lives.
