Campus magazine always appreciates hearing from readers, especially when they have a photo or story to share. Laurier alumna Janet (Wagner) Walsh emailed this photo taken during spring convocation in 1984.
"This picture is very meaningful for me as not only am I graduating from Laurier – and obviously quite happy to be doing so – but my father Dr. Norman Wagner received an honorary degree the same year. That's his hands on my shoulders!
"He's been gone for 13 years now but this will always remain as a special memory. He worked at Laurier for many years before leaving in 1978 to become president of the University of Calgary and it meant a lot to him that I chose to attend Laurier from 1981 to 1984. I'll never forget my years at Laurier."
Before leaving to lead the University of Calgary, Wagner taught near Eastern languages, literature and archaeology at Laurier and served as dean of Graduate Studies and Research from 1974 to 1978. He also founded the School of Religion and Culture and the Wilfrid Laurier University Press.
Holding Walsh's hands in the photo, which was taken by photographer James Hertel, is Russell Muncaster, vice-president: academic.
