Laurier has appointed Douglas H. Deutschman the new dean of its Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. Deutschman joins Laurier from San Diego State University, where he has been associate dean of the College of Sciences since 2016. He will also have a tenured faculty appointment in the Department of Biology at Laurier. Deutschman’s term begins Oct. 1.
After more than eight years at Laurier, Rob Donelson has left his position as vice-president of Development and Alumni Relations to take up a new post as executive director of Development and Alumni Relations at University College Cork in Cork, Ireland. During his time at Laurier, Donelson built an award-winning advancement team, strengthened the university's engagement with alumni and launched the Catalyst fundraising campaign.
Bruce Gillespie has been named Laurier’s 2017 Teaching Fellow. Gillespie is an associate professor in Digital Media and Journalism at Laurier’s Brantford campus and is an award-winning writer, editor and journalist. The Laurier Teaching Fellowship program honours faculty members who demonstrate exceptional contributions to teaching and learning and who have established an exemplary record of achievement in educational leadership.
Richelle Monaghan, an assistant professor in Health Studies and Biology at Laurier’s Brantford campus, was selected as the first recipient of the Gail Jenkins Teaching and Mentoring Award by the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS). The international award recognizes a HAPS member who demonstrates a passion for engaging students through active learning strategies to help them master the core concepts of anatomy and physiology.
