Laurier honorary degree recipients named to Order of Canada

Three Wilfrid Laurier University honorary degree recipients were recently inducted into the Order of Canada.

Linda HasenfratzLinda Hasenfratz, president and CEO of Guelph-based Linamar Corporation, was inducted into the order for efforts to develop economic opportunities in Canada and elsewhere, as well as for her community involvement. Hasenfratz received an honorary degree from Laurier in 2011.

Francis Pang, chairman of the Canadian International School of Hefei, was inducted into the order for his commitment to the development of a co-operative education framework between Canadian and Chinese post-secondary institutions. Pang received an honorary degree from Laurier in 2010.

Christopher Newton, an honorary degree recipient from Laurier in 1997, was inducted into the order for his contributions to theatre in Canada as an esteemed artistic director. An Ontario-based actor, director and playwright, Newton served as artistic director with the Shaw Festival from 1979 until 2002.

Presented by Canada's Governor General, the Order of Canada recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to community and service to nation.
