Laurier wins accolades for employee and student initiatives

Laurier was recently named one of Waterloo Region’s Top Employers for its high-quality workplace policies and programs. The recognition was bestowed by Canada’s Top 100 Employers, which recognizes national and regional organizations that offer exceptional workplaces.

"This employer recognition is a validation of Laurier’s outstanding community-centred culture," said Pamela Cant, assistant vice-president of human Resources and equity. "Our strong sense of community is an important part of what brings students to our campuses and attracts and retains our employees."

Organizations selected for top employer awards redefine how people work and live by developing and adapting policies and procedures to meet the changing expectations of the workforce. While Laurier's recognition was awarded at a regional level, it is based on the university’s efforts across all of its campus locations.

In addition to recognition as a top employer, Laurier last fall was ranked No. 1 in the country in its category for student satisfaction in the annual Maclean's Rankings of Canadian Universities for the third consecutive year.

Maclean's places Laurier in the comprehensive category, which includes 15 universities across the country with a "significant degree of research activity and a wide range of programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including professional degrees."

"The student satisfaction results are particularly gratifying since they reflect the strength of Laurier’s commitment to provide the academic excellence and experiential learning opportunities that help students succeed in their lives and careers," said Laurier President and Vice-Chancellor Deborah MacLatchy.
