Lydia Kim, a third-year music student, was awarded the Rev. Erich Schultz Music Award. Schultz (BA ’51) was the head librarian at Laurier from 1960 to 1991. He established the Rev. Erich Schultz Music Award and other awards through a bequest in his will.

Lydia fell in love with piano at the age of seven. From there, she discovered guitar, violin and voice.

She didn’t expect to study music at the university level, until she was accepted at Laurier. In fact, Lydia at one time didn’t think she was talented enough. When she won the Rev. Erich Schultz Music Award, she was not only able to pay her tuition, but also started to truly believe in herself.  

“Receiving this award is an encouragement and affirmation and it motivates me to keep going and to always try my best in all that I do.”
