Supporting Laurier

William Birchall Foundation gives $500,000 to MMA program

The William Birchall Foundation has donated $500,000 over five years to Laurier’s Lazaridis School of Business and Economics in support of the Master of Science in Management Analytics (MMA) program. The gift will establish the William Birchall Chair in Management Analytics position for a five-year term.

The chair position includes financial support for full-time faculty members in the MMA program who are producing related research; support for academics and industry to collaborate on identifying and solving challenges; and support for engagement activities for students.

The foundation will also create the William Birchall Scholarship in Management Analytics, an entrance scholarship of $20,000 for a student starting in the MMA program at the Lazaridis School. The scholarship will be presented for the first time during the 2022-23 academic year.

Hallman Foundation supports Learners from Care program

The Lyle S. Hallman Foundation has donated $318,000 to Laurier in support of the innovative Learners from Care Academic Success program, which supports students with current or former experience with the foster care system to achieve a postsecondary education.

Building on the foundation of existing support services and financial awards, the Learners from Care Academic Success program – which launched in the fall of 2022 – expands Laurier’s ability to provide support for eligible students to participate fully in their university experience both inside and outside of the classroom.

Funds from the gift cover a seven-year period and will support both tuition and non-tuition expenses not covered by OSAP or other government funding, including an emergency fund.
