The indelible spirit of Laurier’s alumni community

A message from Wilfrid Laurier University Alumni Association president Kyle Walker

When I first arrived at Laurier in 2006, I remember the hundreds of volunteers excitedly cheering, dancing and singing as my family and I drove into Waterloo and toward Bricker Residence.

Years later, I have the great privilege to serve on your Alumni Association as president. It was the sense of community and energy I felt on campus that brought me to Laurier originally and it is to help pay it forward to future alumni that inspires me to give back, to volunteer and serve Laurier’s alumni community.

As the newly appointed president, it is also my honour to pen this message for the final edition of Laurier Campus magazine.

Since 1962, Laurier Campus magazine and its predecessor Waterloo Campus magazine have updated alumni around the world. From news about university happenings and profiles featuring some of the more than 115,000 alumni making their mark in the world to regular features including Alumni Updates and In Memoriam, Campus magazine has documented it all.

Moving forward, these stories and regular features will continue to be told through Laurier’s alumni newsletter, Purple & Gold. This vibrant newsletter can be received directly in your email inbox and, like Laurier Campus, will share the ways you can stay involved, stay connected and stay golden.

I encourage you to update your contact information today by visiting wlu.ca/switch to ensure you continue to receive university and alumni news, as well as information about events, engagement opportunities and exclusive Laurier alumni benefits.

By updating your contact information, you will continue to hear from your alma mater and you’ll also be entered to win a Nintendo Switch gaming system. Additionally, the first 2,500 alumni who update their contact information will receive something just for entering!

While the ways in which we consume information and communicate with each other continue to evolve, I know the Laurier spirit will never change.

Stay golden,

Kyle Walker (BA ’11)
President, WLUAA
